Firestops and draft stops are used for filling in the gaps but their purposes are not the same. Firestop can be defined as a set of components that are employed for the protection purposes against fire outbreak. It contains components that are used for closing any kind of breach or joint (Sinisi, 2009). Due to openings, the fire can be spread out from one place to another within no time. For blocking such kind of openings, firestop is used. The openings of buildings and constructions are filled with substances that are fire resistant in order to safeguard them against any disadvantageous sudden fire outbreak (Sinisi, 2009). The components of firestop should be known to the users so that they can use them accordingly. Firestop, as is clear from its name, is used for stopping the fire. It not only stops the fire but also becomes a barrier for harmful and contagious smokes, gases and flames (Sinisi, 2009). It eradicates the threat of fire spread and is used in buildings that have fire-resistant walls. Unlike firestops, the draft stops are used only for the floors and ceilings. The ceilings and floors have gaps between their joints, in such places, draft stops are used (Meza, 2009). Draft stops are used to fill in the breaches and gaps found in a home or building in order to retain the internal temperature consistent (Meza, 2009). They are also used to save energy consumption. Like firestops, they create a hindrance for any external thing to get internal and any internal thing to get external but they are only used to help the building in retaining the needed environment (Meza, 2009). Therefore, it is quite clear that firestops and draft stops are quite different from one another.
