Global Effects of Environmental Pollution – Assignment Example
The paper "Global Effects of Environmental Pollution" is a wonderful example of an assignment on environmental studies. The introduction of contaminants in the environment which results in disorder, instability, discomfort, and harm to the ecosystem is called pollution. The ecosystem includes living organisms and physical systems. Pollution can take different forms such as energy or chemical substances, for example, heat, noise, or light energy. The elements that cause pollution are called pollutants. Pollutants can be energies, foreign substances or they can also be natural. Pollutants that occur naturally are contaminants that exceed their natural levels. Pollution occurs in many different forms such as air pollution, water pollution, littering, soil contamination, radioactive contamination, nuclear contamination, and noise pollution, thermal, visual, and light pollution. The pollutants in these various forms of pollution are of differ from each other. For example, the pollutants in air pollution are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide whereas the pollutants in water pollution are waste industrial water, liquid spills, and drainage water. Pollution has diverse effects on the ecosystem and all living beings. It can cause various health problems like respiratory diseases and skin cancers and allergies. Noise pollution can affect hearing and also cause high blood pressure. “Ecological effects of pollution could well lead to a decrease of oxygen on a global scale” (Singer 3). Pollution in the environment has also affected the Ozone layer which protects the earth from the harmful rays of the sun, which has resulted in the Ozone hole.
