Wireless Sensor Network Compaire With Optical Fibre – Essay Example
30 September 2008 Wireless Sensor vs. Optical Fiber This paper will present a comparison among the Wireless Sensor Network and the Optical Fiber. The basic motive behind this comparison is to show that the Wireless Sensor Network is better than the Optical Fiber.
Here it is an important point to mention that the data rate that optical fiber gives is not possible for the Wireless Sensor Network but the technology have lot of other qualities that optical fiber did not have (Kenneth, 1998), so in the preceding paragraphs I will present a brief but comprehensive overview among these.
Optical Fiber requires high investment cost for its establishment,1 but as compared to Wireless Sensor Network, this technology offers less establishment cost. Here an important point is: optical fiber needs more expensive optical transmitters and receivers as compared to Wireless Sensor Network. Maintaining cost is too high as compared to Wireless Sensor Network (Kenneth, 1998). If we talk about the size point of view then the overall size like transmitting, protection, establishment, and all those factors that are involved in the communication infrastructure is too less in Wireless Sensor Network as compared to optical fiber .
The deployment of optical fiber is really takes time (Kenneth, 1998), we need a lot of time for the establishment of communication setup between two points, but in Wireless Sensor Network we have the communication infrastructure deployment faster. As in the battle field communication infrastructure we have only one choice that is Wireless Sensor Network .
Another point that gives more strength to Wireless Sensor Network is it provides the working facility in area like, military and battlefield2, also automotive and transportation, security and surveillance uses at these places we can not deploy the optical fiber to have communication infrastructure. Few impotent projects like environmental monitoring3 at some remote areas like in forests us can only have Wireless Sensor Network not the optical fiber for this purpose. Another point related to this is in projects like habitat monitoring: wildlife conservation project we only have Wireless Sensor Network.
